Theme creator

Open Settings > Appearance > Edit theme…. The creator is resizable in VR. Use it to edit colours, shape and key pictures. Key text belongs to the keyboard layout.

Use Start from… to choose a starting theme. Your own themes open for editing; shipped themes become a new copy. Give the theme a unique name. Edits affect the creator preview until you press Save to my themes, which also selects the saved theme.

On Colours and shape, select a colour on the left. The preview outlines the parts it affects. The main colours are background, buttons, pointed-at buttons, text and highlight; more colours cover pressed/unavailable controls, small text, battery states, boxes, microphone states and outlines. Roundness adjusts corners and Outline adjusts border width.

On Key pictures, click a key in the keyboard preview to change its picture. Set the text on that key in the keyboard layout editor; it is saved with the layout and stays when you change themes.

Choose picture… opens the desktop PNG picker described below. Remove clears the picture. Match the text colour tints it with the theme text colour; Keep the key’s text displays the key’s own text over the picture.

Use PNGs no larger than 512 pixels on either side and 2,000,000 bytes each. The theme also limits the combined pixel count to keep texture use bounded. Saved pictures are copied into the theme folder, so the original image does not need to stay in its old location.

Older themes that contain key text still load, but that text is ignored and is not written back when the theme is saved. Recreate any labels you want to keep in the keyboard layout editor.

Undo changes restores the starting theme or the last save; it discards the whole unsaved set of changes rather than stepping back one edit.

Select the colour role you want to change, then press Mix your own colour beside the predefined colours. A colour card opens over the right-hand column; opening it alone does not change the colour.

  1. Drag in the square: left to right increases saturation; bottom to top increases brightness.
  2. Use the hue bar to change the base colour while keeping the chosen saturation and brightness.
  3. Compare Was with Now. Select Was to restore the colour from when you opened the card.
  4. Select the hex value marked CLICK TO TYPE to type a code with the keyboard. Use digits 0-9, letters A-F and an optional leading #.

Changes apply to the selected colour role.
